Three Plants, Three Tailor-Made Solutions: Teknofanghi’s Contribution to Water Treatment in Egypt
In Egypt, growing attention to efficient water resource management has led to significant investments in upgrading treatment facilities. Teknofanghi has supported three major national projects—two dedicated to sludge dewatering and one to water purification—by providing customized solutions designed to meet the specific technical and operational needs of each site.
In the first project, Teknofanghi supplied six MONOBELT® NP20-6DT units for the expansion of an existing facility dedicated to aerobic-digestion municipal sludge dewatering. The plant’s daily capacity reaches 150,000 m³, serving up to one million residents.
Each MONOBELT® unit is configured to treat approximately 32.76 m³/h of sludge at 3.5% dry solids. The system is complemented by three POLYDILUTION automatic polymer preparation units (CAP60CE02), each capable of producing up to 6,000 l/h of solution with an adjustable concentration between 0.05% and 0.3%.
The complete supply includes sludge and polymer pumps, dynamic mixers, screw conveyors, and electrical panels. Teknofanghi also provided a three-year spare parts package to ensure continuous operation (20 hours/day), taking into account the sludge’s organic composition and the expected polymer consumption rate (5–7 kg/ton DS).
The second project involved the expansion of the El Senbelaween STP, a biological treatment facility with a capacity of 30,000 m³/day, serving approximately 200,000 people. Teknofanghi supplied three MONOBELT® NP15-EK units, designed to operate 20 hours per day and process biological sludge with an average concentration of 3% suspended solids. Based on sludge characteristics (SVI < 100, ash content > 40%), the estimated polymer consumption was set at a maximum of 8 kg/ton DS. To meet these requirements, a POLYDILUTION CAP60CE02 unit capable of handling both powder and emulsion polymers was installed, along with dosing pumps, static mixers, and electrical panels.
The third intervention concerned the construction of a new water purification plant in Central Egypt, with a treatment capacity of 600 l/s. Teknofanghi supplied two MONOBELT® NP20-6DTK units, each equipped with a double thickening drum installed above the belt filter press frame.
Designed to treat between 30 and 35 m³/h of sludge at 2–3% solids, these units are entirely built in AISI 304L stainless steel. Thanks to internally designed washing nozzles, water consumption is significantly reduced compared to other market solutions, minimizing the hydraulic return load to the upstream process.
To complete the system, a POLYDILUTION CAP30CE02 unit was installed, capable of producing up to 3,000 l/h of polymer solution with a maturation time of at least 60 minutes. The supply also includes screw conveyors, static mixers, pumps, and compressors.
Across all three projects, Teknofanghi delivered bespoke engineering solutions, precisely calibrated to process parameters, sludge characteristics, and performance goals. From biological sludge dewatering to potable water treatment, the integrated and modular approach ensured operational continuity, water savings, and simplified management. A clear demonstration of the value of customized engineering in water treatment—even in the most challenging environments.
