Teknodisk or Scrufilter: Which System is Suitable for Your Plant?

Final filtration is a strategic stage in wastewater treatment, both municipal and industrial. Depending on the plant layout, flow rates involved, and the required effluent quality, the choice of technology may vary.

Teknofanghi offers two reliable solutions, featuring different automatic technologies, both designed for the continuous microfiltration of suspended solids, COD, BOD₅ and phosphorus: Teknodisk, a rotating disc system, and Scrufilter.
Understanding the operating context and technical specifications is the first step in identifying the most suitable solution, without forcing the choice.

Teknodisk. Continuous microfiltration for medium-to-large plants

Teknodisk is a rot ating disc microfiltration system designed for the removal of suspended solids, suitable when high water quality is required or as pretreatment for UV disinfection.
Filtered water can be reused in agricultural or industrial applications. Filtration occurs by gravity through meshes mounted on both sides of the discs, while an automatic system activates rotation and backwashing as soon as the meshes begin to clog.

Filtered water is also reused for washing, avoiding the use of external sources. Retained solids are conveyed to the central collection channel, allowing filtration to remain active even during cleaning phases.

Main advantages:

  • Reduced footprint with large filtration surface
  • Discs divided into independent sectors, simplifying maintenance
  • Fully automated operation, equipped with electrical panel, ultrasonic sensor and washing pump
  • Available in stainless steel AISI 304L (or 316L on request), with filter meshes in polyester or stainless steel and filtration grades from 10 to 150 microns
  • Models available with integrated tank or for installation in concrete channels

The system is designed for medium-to-large plants, where the goal is to combine operational continuity, water reuse and reduced operating costs.

Scrufilter. Continuous and compact microfiltration for small-to-medium plants

Scrufilter is an adv anced continuous microfiltration system, operating since 2002 in numerous municipal and industrial plants.
It has been designed for the advanced removal of suspended solids, phosphorus, COD, BOD₅ and other substances, and is recommended when high water quality or pretreatment for UV disinfection is required.

Unlike drum filters, Scrufilter operates continuously, without the need for external wash water, producing up to 90% less reject water containing suspended solids, with very low water consumption.

Filter meshes are customizable (20–200 µm) and are mounted on independent panels, simplifying maintenance.

Applications include:

  • Water recovery in paper, food & beverage, and textile industries
  • Post-DAF filtration
  • Treatment of surface, cooling tower or groundwater
  • Plants with UV disinfection or aquaculture facilities

Scrufilter is suitable both for new installations and for retrofits, in scenarios requiring continuity and efficiency.

Key factors to consider when choosing the right system

Before choosing between Teknodisk and Scrufilter, it is necessary to assess:

  • Available installation space
  • Hydraulic flow rate and influent water characteristics
  • Required effluent filtration grade
  • Operational objectives: reuse, discharge to river/lake
  • Type of wastewater to be treated (municipal, industrial, seasonal)
  • Any management constraints, such as flow continuity or reduced maintenance

Every plant has its own priorities. And the best technical choice always arises from analyzing real operating conditions.

Teknodisk and Scrufilter address different needs, but share the same approach: continuous filtration, ease of management, durability. The former is ideal where flow rates are high, the latter is a functional choice for smaller plants.
Teknofanghi supports engineers and operators from the design stage, to identify solutions aligned with plant objectives. Because choosing a technology is never just a technical matter: it is a matter of context, expertise and long-term vision.
