Moorea, French Polynesia: SCRUFILTER® Microfiltration for a High-End Resort
In the stunning setting of French Polynesia, on the volcanic island of Moorea, a luxury resort had long adopted a sustainable solution for irrigating its ornamental green areas by reusing the treated water from the local wastewater plant. However, unpleasant odors in the effluent eventually made it impossible to continue the activity, compromising the guest experience and forcing the resort to suspend water reuse for irrigation.
The goals of the new intervention were threefold:
- Restore the reuse of treated water for irrigation.
- Eliminate odors caused by residual suspended solids.
- Ensure an easy-to-manage solution compatible with the island’s logistical constraints.
After analyzing the effluent characteristics and the existing treatment process, the team designed a downstream upgrade focused on reliable, continuous physical filtration. The choice fell on SCRUFILTER® FL03S units - a compact and robust microfiltration solution capable of reducing fine solids, COD, and suspended organic fractions.
Using 40-micron filtering fabrics, the SCRUFILTER® technology created an effective physical barrier against odor-forming substances, with no need for backwash water and a very small footprint - ideal in a remote and environmentally sensitive context.
